Am a beginner at reading Spanish. I thoroughly enjoyed readind/studying this novel. The story is about 160 pages and I took about 1 hour per page to read/translate. So it took me about 160 hours to complete. In the process I learned many new Spanish words and phrases. I have references to rely on such as a Spanish to English Dictionary, on line translator/iPhone translation app and also cross checked the Spanish text against an English copy of the text I found on line at UT.edu. .

I had about 150 hours of Spanish reading practice before starting El Viejo y El Mar.
El libro contiene una gran historia, la entrega del vendedor fue eficaz. La razÃ³n por la cual pongo 2 estrellas es que esta versiÃ³n no tiene los capÃtulos en el libro. Es una historia continua. Muy mal ya que puede ser difÃcil parar en una parte neutra en el libro.
Like the old man and the sea, even there were lot of details about fishing that i did not completely get.
Great book. Although I am using this book in addition to other Spanish lessons. Someone recommended this book to me and I am trying to read and learn more Spanish at the same time. It's a fun adventure

It is a Nobel Prize winning story, you learn something about fishing, and see the gritty and noble side of the human condition.
