Throughout the 267-page report compiled on the Penn State scandal and the coverup of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse, it is one line that cuts to the heart of why America is in so much trouble "A culture of reverence for the football program that is ingrained at all levels of the campus community." Paul Kersey dares take you down the rabbit hole and show you how far that reverence for college football goes on the campuses of some of America's best colleges and universities. And in the process, he clearly shows that a new form of discrimination has emerged; that against white high school athletes. The godfather of college football recruiting, Tom Lemming, told the Chicago Sun-Times in 2009, ""College recruiters talk off the record to me," said Lemming. "They talk off the record that if an athlete is white, no matter how great his production, they won't recruit him." "On his annual coast-to-coast trips to evaluate the top 1,500 prospects in the country, Lemming sees hundreds of white tailbacks who are very productive but few get a chance in college." Paul Kersey will show you the ramifications of majority black major college football, where the Southeastern Conference (SEC) went from all-white teams up until the early 1970s to fielding squads of almost black starters who rely on "special admits" to gain acceptance to the university.

"The book title is an assessment of the tailgate party crowd. The book contents explain why. One of the reasons college costs have become ruinous to most American students is that they are supporting a huge parasitical obscenity - the collegiate sports program."

  • This book was very informative and interesting! I have a totally different view of college football and will probably not watch it again until 2016 when the New athlete eligibility standards are enforced! Most of the players do not meet academic criteria for college admission, but are allowed to attend basically to become a slave for the coaches and alumni. Then there is the reverse discrimination against white high school players and the derogatory statements across the line of scrimmage. These players demand to get their way or strike. You can take them out of the 'hood, but you can't take the 'hood out of them. A lot of players get into trouble and nothing is done about it but a 1 game suspension. If they can't act like respectable human beings, get players that will!! But that will cause an uproar with the white alumni who believe they have to have these black players to win. I think the one thing that disgusted me the most was when the black players at a predominantly white college demand that a particularly lewd hip hop song be played over the loudspeakers during warm up at the stadium and all of the people in the stadium were dancing in the aisles. I thought, "What a bunch of fools!!" These people cheer for them in the stands but would not speak to them any other time! This is a very good book and needs to be read! I hope the New rules can help change the situation!!
  • I'll give it two stars because it had some information you might not get in many other places, but this isn't a book so much as a series of blog posts published as chapters. There is a lot of repetition. And the thesis seems to be that blacks should never have been allowed to play with whites in sports (along with the fact that whites face discrimination in football). I was hoping it would have examined the science of athleticism with respect to race, a topic I find interesting but which few want to touch. There isn't a whole lot of that in here.

I have no problem with race realism, but I think a person can be a race realist without calling for outright apartheid. Though the author never explicitly says blacks should never have been allowed to join white leagues, he dances right up to that line several times. A conclusion like that needs to be well argued, but the author does little other than claim that blacks are rowdy and prone to crime. I think we can acknowledge that blacks commit more crimes per capita without prohibiting ALL blacks from stepping on a college campus and playing football, can't we?
  • The book title is an assessment of the tailgate party crowd. The book contents explain why. One of the reasons college costs have become ruinous to most American students is that they are supporting a huge parasitical obscenity - the collegiate sports program.
  • The organization is a little bad and some of it is redundant (having been taking from an online blog), but the basic message of the book is why I gave it a 5 stars.

I grew up in a southern family where college football was god, but after attending college myself and seeing first hand and attending a few classes with the "special admin" football squad and basketball squads I soon realized that there presence on a college campus was an insult to me and my hard work to get to this place. Is a college an institution of higher learning or it is a training facility for professional sports? I'd recommend this to anyone interested in Human Bio-Diversity, collegiate sports, or the decline of the south and traditional American culture. Paul does do a good job of addressing these divergent themes and weaving them together.

This book has convinced me that the NCAA needs to reform its ways (disband it?) before you ever see me taking time out of my life to watch these people compete. Sorry BCS and March Madness but I'm not mad about your BS!
  • This book is a REAL EYE-OPENER! Every man/woman who loves college football ---should order this book!
'Opiate of America' is a courageous ---no-holes-bared look at the truth of the THUG WORLD of college football. I am a big SEC football fan ---but I now look at the game in an entirely perspective! This book was well researched ---well documented ---well written ---and did not try to pull any punches! *GO GO AMAZON AND ORDER THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!
