• I thought Bel-Ami was fascinating and hard to put down. I'm not a native speaker of French but I didn't find it too difficult to read. I found the main character, Georges Duroy, quite despicable. He is a highly manipulative person and will do anything to get ahead. He shows no remorse. De Maupassant is an amazing writer and knows how to bring this character to life. I also found the setting of the story--Paris in the second half of the nineteenth century--quite interesting from a historical perspective. Guy de Maupassant is one of my favorite French authors and this book did not disappoint. I could read it again.

• Ce roman agreable a lire et pas du tout rebarbatif nous replonge dans le Paris du tournant du 19me et 20me siecles dans lequel un jeune homme fort ambitieux et sans scrupule mais egalement sans le sou et sans connections decouvre le pouvoir de son charme sur les dames pour arriver a ses reves de fortune et reconnaissance sociale.
