• Why spend $25 for a book that is not updated? Three query letters were returned to me because the agent moved, merged or went out of business. Sure it happens, but after checking online, I discovered the one agent most appealing to me had moved in 2009. This book is dated 2013. Herman is riding on a prior good rating and obviously resting on his laurels. For this reason, most of my hard work preparing query letters tailored to his outdated specifications, was nothing more than a waste of time. Sad, when you are trying your hardest to get a book published for a terminally ill client .
• I have other directories, but this one is so tangible. It gives you a good feel for each agent's likes and dislikes and their relationships with publishers. Now I can search for agents whose market and contacts are looking for the kind of books I'm writing. It should save me a lot of time, but hopefully, put me in touch with someone who is looking for my book.
• Thorough and inlaid with little equivocation, Jeff Herman's guide must be considered one of the most all encompassing guides on the seemingly bewildering world of pursuing publication. There's a lot to get through in this book, but the chapters of essays were accessible and informative.
• As usual, Jeff Herman saves the day. A wonderful book for new-comers or authors with multiple books out looking for agents or publishers.
• Do not rely on the published information alone. You must check out each source individually for updated information. The online websites for each agent/publisher will be more current.
• I believe that this product is one of the more current and comprehensive books of its kind. It was recommended by a friend who knew about my interest in moving into a new phase of obtaining recognition for my book. So, I bought it as a worthwhile addition to my resources in the publishing field. I received everything I wanted from this reference book.
• This book organizes all the information I need to send out my manuscript. My only suggestion, oh how I wish, would be to add a "publish immediately" coupon to send to publishers. When I figure out how to make a book get published just by thought-osmosis, I'll write my own.
• This book is valuable to freelance writers but I wish they would make it available in a edition. It is big and with the change every year I would prefer to order an updated version each year than buying a new one.
