- I didn't have high hopes when my girls picked out this thinly-veiled ad for Beanie Babies but even those low expectations weren't met. The "story" is the Beanie Babies are having an Easter Egg hunt and one of them comes back with a real egg rather than a candy-filled Easter egg, which soon hatches into a chick. Which I guess they then steal from the mother. The end.
Sure enough the thinly-veiled ad worked its magic and my girls said they wanted Goldie the Chick, so I dutifully checked and found the toy was out of production and now going for $30~$50 for collectors. Even worse it was "retired" years ago and this book came out in 2018, so Ty deliberately published an ad for a toy they knew young readers (and their parents) would not be able to get.
And I should note this is an "Easter" book with no mention of Christ, church, God, religion or anything but eggs. Which makes no sense. No one but Christians is going to buy an Easter book so why does the book pretend the holiday is just some secular egg-finding festival?
So yeah, no story, no wit, thinly-veiled ad for toys you can't buy, and an Easter book with no actual Easter.
Stay away. - Splendid book
